We serve little eyes in Star Pupils through programming efforts that provide early detection and treatment of eye problems and through education about eye safety measures at home, school and play.

Star Pupils is designed to help 5 Million Kids nationwide to become Star Pupils through Healthy Sight and Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic has committed our programs and services toward that national goal by supporting the healthy vision of the more than 600,000 children in Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland!

80% of a child’s learning is visual,

and yet…

1 in 4 students in grades K-6 have vision problems that are serious enough to impede learning.

While early detection is key to treat vision problems, only one in three children in

America has received eye care services before the age of six, and children

from low-income households are more likely to be undiagnosed for vision problems.

Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic, in conjunction with Prevent Blindness America and its affiliates across the nation, has taken up the cause to give America’s children the opportunities for vision health and safety that they so sorely lack. Our children deserve to experience the success in education that healthy vision can bring. Across the nation we have launched Star Pupils to make a difference in the lives of America’s children.

Star Pupils puts focus on healthy eyes for healthy futures by preventing vision loss in children so that they can start school “ready to learn.”
